09 March 2016Telenor opens renovated lab at the Technical University of Sofia
Telenor opened the renovated Antennas and Microwave Communications laboratory for the students of the Faculty of Telecommunications at the Technical University of Sofia. Telenor provided fully operational telecom equipment for the lab and refurbished it, thus granting about BGN 45,000.
The Rector of the Technical University Professor Georgi Mihov, the Dean of the Faculty of Telecommunications Professor Iliya Iliev, Telenor Technology Implementation Director Mr. Georg Svendsen and the company's Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Mr. Yassen Guev officially opened the renovated lab.
'We all know that theory and practice is not the same thing and that applies for the telecom industry to an even greater extent. This lab will give young engineers a hands-on experience with up-to-date equipment that has been used in our network until recently and will also give them a chance to work in a similar to the real business environment. I believe this will help them to better prepare for a career, including one in Telenor', Mr. Guev said the event.
The lab will be used by students majoring in Telecommunications. Telenor funded the full repair of the lab and equipped it with used computers and furniture. The company also provided telecom equipment of the highest carrier grade which was replaced during the Telenor network swap completed in the middle of last year. The equipment covers almost all transmission technologies used in a telecom network: IP routers, time-division multiplexers, microwave transmission lines, SDH and DWDM multiplexers.
The renovation project is part of Telenor's long-term cooperation with the Technical University of Sofia which dates back to 2004. Last year the company also donated operational telecom equipment to the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy in Varna, the Professional School of Telecommunications in Sofia and the Technical University of Gabrovo. The initiatives are held as part of Telenor's corporate responsibility focused on supporting Bulgarian education and young people.
